About Us



Umm Al Houl Power (UHP) is an independent water and power plant (IWPP), established to energize Qatar growth with capacity of 2,520 MW of power and 197.9 MIGD of potable water. The production capacity making UHP considers as one of the largest plant in the State of Qatar and Middle East, in the field of power generation and seawater desalination. UHP meets the Qatar National Vision 2030 by cover the needs of Qatar with 30% of electricity and 40% of water.

The company has established as a Joint Venture Company (JVC) with the shareholders of local companies, which are Qatar Electricity and Water Company (QEWC) has 60% that owns the highest percentage, whereas Qatar Foundation owns 5%, likewise Qatar Petroleum (QP) owns 5%. The foreign company is the K1 energy owns 30%, it’s an integration of two Japanese investors companies which are Mitsubishi Corporation and Jera, they own 20% and 10% respectively.

‌In May 2015, The EPC contract was awarded to Mitsubishi Corporation, with main contractors being Samsung C&T from Korea and Hitachi Zosen from Japan, who are internationally recognized in field of energy. The project duration was 39 months, started in May 2015 and completed in June 2018. The inauguration ceremony held in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Althani and the prime minister Sheikh Abdulla Bin Nasser Althani in March 2019.

‌We are all challenged in the business world. It is the constant challenge for success, but now we live a decisive moment. Climate change, population growth, shifting geopolitical balances and the threat of new diseases like the recent outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic has made even more complex today’s scenario.

‌Sustainability, Safety and Efficiency are UHP driving forces to tackle these challenges. Since its creation in 2015, UHP puts sustainability at the center of the value chain with the mission of making people's lives better through the production of potable water and electricity according to the highest applicable standards of efficiency, environment and, above all, safety. Because the safety of our employees always comes first, and with the recent health crisis we have had the opportunity to prove it. UHP has acted with determination, taking the necessary steps to protect its employees and ensure the business continuity.

Welcome to Umm Al Houl Power Company

The State of Qatar is on the sustainable development trajectory under the prolific leadership of H.H The Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

Umm Al Houl Power (UHP) has been created under the government’s Qatar National Vision 2030, contributes its share in bolstering Qatar’s economy with a $2.5 billion power plant with a capacity to produce 2.5 GW of electricity and 136 million gallons of drinking water a day to 2.5 million of homes, which represents a real milestone in the world of desalination.
